‘Ozaki’ period in heart surgeries

Cardiovascular Surgeon Prof. Dr. Kuralay said that with the techniques recently used in heart valve surgeries, the risk of infection after surgery is an important problem. Kuralay stated that in heart valve surgeries, patients should have a general health check in order to protect against infection, and in addition, the patient should use blood thickeners for life, “When the patient does not use blood thickeners, the clot formed on the heart valve disrupts the blood movements and causes sudden shortness of breath. It can cause complications up to heart death. At the same time, if this clot moves, it can cause sudden paralysis in the brain when it travels to the brain. For this reason, we have changed our strategies now. Infection is something that we can constantly encounter in human life. The germs in your teeth can pass into your blood for 30 minutes.This is a big problem for a person with heart valve surgery. ta “he said.


Prof. Dr. Kuralay said that they changed their strategies in both aortic and mitral valves and started using the ‘Ozaki’ technique in the aortic valve first. Kurulay said, “With this technique, we make a valve in the tissue surrounding the heart of the person. This valve is always better than a normal prosthesis. If there is no loss of function in the valve when you perform surgery, the quality of life of the patient is better.” Ozaki published his own series of 440 diseases. The operation we performed is extremely simple. We harden our own valve tissue with a solution. Then we remove the dead. We cut according to these measurements and sew these valve parts in place of the removed aortic valve. Finally, we insert an echo tool through the mouth. “We see the functions of these valves. Although there is no problem in these functions, we separate the patient from the heart-lung pump.”


Stating that the patient was resistant to infections after the operations performed with the ‘Ozaki’ technique and that he did not use any blood thinners, Prof. Dr. Kuralay noted the following:

“He only uses aspirin. Most importantly, we bring the heart functions of the patient closer to normal. There is a relative narrowing in the mechanical valves we put, but with this technique, we can achieve the opening that the heart wants, even if we use the smallest valve body. This is a very nice thing. Especially when we have such diseases in our female patients, when we apply mechanical valve prosthesis to our patients, the rate of getting pregnant almost falls to zero because the patient has to use blood thickeners for life.If there are concerns or expectations about pregnancy or pregnancy, we wear the caps we call ‘alternative bioprosthesis’. But their lifespan is also limited. The patient is subjected to a valve surgery for 5-10 years. But he continues his life normally with the ‘Ozaki’ technique. ”
